Major industry executives will speak in Abu Dhabi on 25-26 October.

A new surge in LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) supplies from producers in the Middle East and even West Africa are contributing to the increase in LPG exports in the market. With the growth of demand for LPG, new opportunities and emerging markets are surfacing as the impact on the industry begins to reveal itself.

More than 15 industry executives consisting major producers, exporters and importers from various corporations will give their key updates at this year’s 5th LPG Trade (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Summit conference in Abu Dhabi on 25-26 October. The conference is set to provide global stakeholders with latest updates on LPG major market-shapers, current growth analysis and future industry outlook.

With ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) as the official host for the 5th LPG Trade Summit, the conference’s profile has taken another step towards being one of the most important LPG events in the region. Given their strong support for the event, ADNOC is hosting an exclusive Gala Dinner reception on the evening of 25th October for all conference speakers and participants. Additionally, ADNOC will also deliver the opening address on “Aspiring Production & Export Growth of Abu Dhabi’s LPG” to be presented by Mr. Abdulla Sultan Al Nuaimi, a Gas Sales Manager who has been with ADNOC for 9 years and currently oversees the company’s operations in Natural Gas and the LPG sales locally and internationally.

Impact from the rise in global LPG production from the Middle East & Corresponding Growth in Demand

Evaluate the competitiveness of LPG as petrochemical feedstock, & update on the recovery of the petchem sector

Growth of LPG usage in the transportation fuels market with focus on the growing India’s market

Gain insights on what’s happening in China and India and how domestic production can dampen imports

Opportunities available in emerging markets: Brazil and Oman

The long-awaited upsurge in LPG exports has finally begun. Increased supplies from the Middle East (especially Qatar and Abu Dhabi) are starting to reach the market. More production is also emerging from West Africa.

A new addition to this year’s program is a separately bookable pre-conference workshop on “LPG Shipping Economics and Risk Management”. The full-day program on the 24 October will be led by Dr Amir Alizadeh, BSc, Msc, PhD, thus providing an option for delegates who are arriving earlier for the ensuing two days event.

Another main highlight at the conference will be a panel discussion on the “Economics & Risk Management of LPG Shipping” by representatives from Poten & Partners, Viamar AS, Eagle Ocean Transport Inc., and A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S. Participants will also have the chance to hear from Mr Win Thein Maung, Executive Director of Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc., as he present his topic on “Managing Risk Exposures & Building Successful Businesses in LPG”.

Following a successful 4th LPG Trade Summit conference last year in Qatar which garnered almost 250 attendees, registrants can look forward to interact with key speakers and representatives from major LPG suppliers and traders speaking on the future LPG supply from their companies, and potentially discuss long-term supply contracts.

The government, which freed petrol price and increased diesel, kerosene and LPG prices in June, is yet to come out with subsidy sharing mechanism for the underrecoveries.

In an interview with Ajay Modi & Jyoti Mukul, its Chairman and Managing Director, B M Bansal, says the freeing of petrol prices will only help in improving cash flow and the government is still expected to pick the tab for kerosene and LPG subsidy.

Now that the Indian government has freed petrol prices and increased LPG prices, the fate of the petroleum gas in India’s transportation market is challenged. Also, the increase in domestic production of LPG in India has tipped the balance on the global import capacity.

The 5th LPG Trade Summit taking place in Abu Dhabi from 25-26 October is proud to announce the addressing of the above concerns via two distinguished sessions:

LPG’s Competitiveness as Autogas in India’s Transportation Market
Mr. Suyash Gupta, General Secretary, Indian Auto LPG Coalition

India’s LPG production and Imports Outlook
Senior Representative, India Oil Corp (IOC)

The value of the contract is approximately US $536 million.

On July 9, 2010 Estaleiro Promar S.A. signed 8 contracts to build LPG Carriers for Transpetro, the shipping arm of the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras (NYSE:PBR). The contracts amounts US $536 million, comprising the construction of two different types of LPG Carriers: fully pressurized with cargo capacity of 7.000 m3 (4 units) and 4.000 m3 (2 units) and semi-refrigerated with cargo capacity of 12.000 m3 (2 units).

As is attested by the report above, Petrobras – one of the many distinguished companies speaking at the 5th LPG Trade Summit – is dedicated to some serious investment in their shipping business and perhaps import capacity of LPG.

5th LPG Trade Summit, with the theme ‘Aligning the incremental export capacity with demand growth or competitive economics?’ takes a look at LPG in the shipping market – on the availability, trade route & freight rate.

The conference also zooms in on how the LPG industry is shifting towards the Western Markets like Europe, Latin America and the US Gulf.

We are currently finalizing the program details and will update the event schedule very soon.

2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the LPG business, judging by recent industry headlines:

“Qatar will produce 12.6 million tonnes per year (tpy) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 2012, up from 8.2 million tpy now, making it one of the biggest LPG producers in the Middle East, the CEO of Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Co, also known as Tasweeq, said on Wednesday.” ~Reuters, 5 May

“JS Private Equity Fund has expressed intention to acquire 15.374 million shares, representing 67.91 per cent of the issued share capital of Shell Gas LPG (Pakistan) Limited, according to a notice sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange on Tuesday.” ~ Pakistan Tribune, 5 May

“Worldwide trade in LPG will increase over the near term with a growing surplus in markets east of the Suez Canal pushing more LPG into western markets. In the West, more LPG will become petrochemical feedstock in that price-sensitive market…Overall, worldwide LPG growth through 2013 will average about 3.5%/year.” ~ Oil & Gas Journal, March 2010

As the world moves out of recession, the markets to watch will still be in the Middle East where rapid petrochemical expansions and growing domestic/commercial use are creating strong demand.

But will demand be sufficient to absorb supply? Supply growth among Middle Eastern producers is also expected to especially strong, specifically in Iran, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, increasing by about 14 million tonnes by 2013 according to Purvin & Gertz’ latest estimates.

The best place to make sense of the LPG markets for 2010 and beyond is at the 5th LPGtrade Summit, meeting in Abu Dhabi from 25-27 October this year. Participants can look forward to high-level discussions on latest trends shaping the LPG business, including LPG capacity additions in the UAE & other Middle East states, as well as the demand revival in key regional LPG markets.

5th LPGtrade Summit is part of the annual LPG conference that meets around the world to offer market updates, and networking opportunities. Last year’s headline making conference saw participation from over 350 of the most influential LPG executives from over 31 countries!

Watch out for our updates on 5th LPGtrade Summit, which will be coming soon!
